International Master Ameya Audi put up a brilliant performance to finish fourth at 13th KIIT International Chess Tournament 2022 Category A, Odisha which concluded recently.
Ameya, who was ranked as the 14th seed in the tournament, finished as the highest finisher among the Indians. He was also the highest placed non-GM player. Ameya's noteworthy performance was a draw against GM Savchenko Boris (2524) of Russia and top seed GM Amonatav Farrukh (2622) of Tajikistan in the 10th and concluding round of the tournament to secure a score of 7.5 points. Ameya won against Sri Lankan IM Weerawardane Ramesh, FM Aryan Varshney (Delhi) and CM Mayank Chakraborthy (Assam), Shadhursshaan R of Tamil Nadu, Ghosh Samridhaa and Alekhya Mukhopadhyay of West Bengal, and Shiv Pavan Teja Sharma U of AP. Ameya had 6 wins and 3 draws.
The tournament had a participation of 175 players from all over the world of which 38 were titled players. First seed GM Amonatov Farrukh of Tajkistan won the championship with 8 out of 10 points, followed by GM Stupak Krill of Belarus and GM Savchenko Boris of Russia with 7.5 points each.
