MARGAO: Despite playing below their usual standards, Bandoi Boys managed to secure a place in the finals of the Santa Cruz Club Trophy, organised by the Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim, at the Fr. Druston and Wellington ground, Cavelossim.
The Bandoi team took an early lead when defender Vikas scored an own goal. His shot, which bounced awkwardly in front of the goal, was missed by goalkeeper Ronaldo, allowing the ball to roll into the net.
In the second half, Bandoi Boys extended their lead with two more goals. Veteran Alex Rodriguez scored one while Mothu added another. However, they could have easily added more to their tally but striker Charles Rodrigues was off form squandering several chances.
Bandoi Boys will now face their arch-rivals ITS in the final on November 10. The match will be partly played under floodlights, and will be graced by the distinguished presence of Chief Guest ZP Member Joseph Pimenta, along with Special Invitees Dixon Vaz, Sarpanch of VP Cavelossim, Rinku Lobo, Dy. Sarpanch, Fr Ubaldo Fernandes, Parish Priest, and Fr Saude Pereira.
