Candolim SC edge into quarterfinals

With a clinical performance, Candolim Sports Club defeated Margao Sports Club 2-1 to move into the quarterfinals of the 15th St Anthony's Festival Cup 2023 organised by St Anthony's Sports Club Assolda at Moll ground, Kumsai Assolda Monday.

Candolim struck once in each half. The winners didn't have an overwhelming dominance in the match, but their ability to strike when the opportunities arose made all the difference. Anit put Candolim in the lead in the 26th minute. Margao did make some forays in the rival half, but the second goal at the hour mark broke their resistance. Sarineo Fernandes reduced the margin.

Curtorim Gymkhana shoot past Betalbatim Sporting
Curtorim Gymkhana beat Betalbatim Sporting Club 5-4 via the tiebreaker to book their place in the quarterfinals of the Cana Benaulim Village Panchayat Cup football tournament played at St John de Baptista ground, Dando Benaulim on Monday.

Betalbatim SC took the lead through Klusner Pereira, which was later cancelled by Neliston Silveira for Curtorim Gymkhana. In the tiebreaker, Jovel Martins, Amar Estibeiro, Rhay Dias and Nickson Castanha netted for Curtorim Gymkhana while Ashley Fernandes, Klusner Pereira and Jesus Fernandes shot on target for Betalbatim SC.

Mandar joins East Bengal from Mumbai City
Goan left-back Mandar Rao Dessai has joined East Bengal FC on a free transfer from Mumbai City FC.

The former FC Goa player's contract with the Islanders ended on May 31 after three successful seasons with the Mumbai giants. Mandar won the ISL League Winners’ Shield with FC Goa, and two League Winners’ Shields and an ISL title with Mumbai City. Meanwhile, the red and gold brigade strengthened their squad with the signings of Harmanjot Singh Khabra and Sydney Edwin Vanspal from Chennaiyin FC.

Gopalkrishna win Kazari Football League
PANAJI: Come And Play Football Coaching Centre organised Kazari Football League at Devkikrishna ground, Marcel. Gopalkrishna won on penalties 3-0 against Shantadurga Orgao after a 0-0 draw.

Awards: Man of the Final - Sarvesh Khandolkar, Player of the Tournament - Rupesh Tari, Appreciated Player - Anil Naik, Appreciated Team - Shantadurga Khandola. At the prize distribution ceremony, chief guest Nilesh Shirodkar congratulated the teams and appreciated the idea of conducting the tournament. Premanand Naik shared his ideas and tips for all. Arun Kholkar, Gajanan Mashelkar and Chandrashekar Chodankar presented the individual prizes.

Divesh wins Pisgal chess tourney
Divesh Priolkar won a chess tournament for Pisgal residents organized by Ajinkya Chess Academy in association with the Lions Club of Ponda City and Ponda Taluka Chess Association.

Anand Kurtikar was the chief arbiter. Aryan Jojo, Rupam Gaude, Chinmay Gaude, Pratish Gaude, Darshan Kurtikar and Shubham Gaude secured 2nd to 7th spots respectively. Divya Gaude was named the promising player of the tournament. The prizes were sponsored by the Lions Club of Ponda City and distributed at the hands of president Uma Gaitonde, secretary Archana Tendulkar, treasurer Seema Kesarkar, Sagar Sakordekar (president, PTCA, Anand Nevrekar, Mahesh Gaitonde, Sheela Nevrekar and others.
