In a one-sided affair at DBO Ground, Fatorda, Curtorim Gymkhana emerged victorious over SC Rumdamol with a resounding 9-1 scoreline. The match was a part of the GFA U-15 Division League 2022-23 in the Salcete Zone, Group B. Curtorim dominated from the start, with Anselm Fernandes opening the scoring in the fifth minute. Veneil Fernandes quickly followed up with a goal in the eighth minute, and Anselm added two more goals in the 14th and 18th minutes. Floyd Antao also got on the scoresheet in the 23rd minute, while Vaughn Fernandes scored just before half-time. The second half saw Curtorim continue to dominate, with Floyd scoring his second goal in the 43rd minute, and Aayan Shaikh adding to the tally in the 44th. Anselm completed his hat-trick with a goal in the 47th minute. Mohammed Sheikh scored a consolation goal for SC Rumdamol in the 58th minute.
Betalbatim Sporting Club march into quarters
MARGAO: Betalbatim Sporting Club beat CAC Cansaulim 1-0 and moved into the quarterfinal of the Betalbatim Villagers Cup at Betalbatim ground on Wednesday. Betalbatim Sporting Club netted the match-winner through Selroy Fernandes in the 70th minute.
Varca SC knockout Arlem YA in tiebreaker
MARGAO: Varca Sports Club defeated Arlem Youth Association 5-4 to enter the semifinals of the Arlem Trophy intervillage football tournament played at Raia Panchayat ground. Lloyd Cardozo gave Arlem YA the lead while Jobern Cardozo equalised for Varca SC. In the ensuing tie breaker “ Aaron Barreto, Allan Fernandes, Yunal Fernandes and Muhammad Shaikh scored for Varca SC while Velito Cruz, Delan Gomes and Klins Mendes netted for Arlem YA.
Patrong SC, Vasco Utd FC pick up wins
MARGAO: Patrong Sports Club got the better of Verna Sports CA by a solitary goal in the GFA U-5 league match played at Panchayat ground, Chicalim. Suraj Naik scored the all important goal for Patrong in the 3rd minute of the opening half. Srutesh Rao, Yeshwant Tari, Roundtree Kaskar stood out for Patrong while Snyder Costa and Royson Moniz played their hearts out for Verna. In the second match Vasco United FC defeated Rising Star SCC 9-1 to gain full points at the Panchayat ground Nagoa.
Chandor SC defeat Rossman Cruz 1-0
MARGAO: The Cavelossim Panchayat Rolling Trophy Intervillage Football Tournament got underway at Fr Druston and Wellington football ground, Cavelossim with Chandor SC getting the better of Rossman Cruz, Nagoa by a solitary goal. The all important and inaugural goal of the tournament was scored by Alreach Peixote with a rasping drive from the top of the box from a miss pass of Andrus John. Rossman Cruz should have restored parity when Nixon Rebello failed to tap the ball in from handshaking distance off a measured cross by their winger Shelton Pereira who was their outstanding player.
Calangute Veterans book semifinal berth
MARGAO: Calangute Veterans booked their semifinals berth with a hard-fought 4-3 win via tiebreaker against Fatorda Veterans at the third Assolna Veterans Football Cup, at Assolna ground on Wednesday. With quite a few former internationals in their side, Calangute Veterans dictated early through possession. Former India player Roberto Fernandes missed an early opportunity to give his side the lead. After a barren first half, it was Marcus Carvalho taking a first-time attempt on the Calangute goal in the seventh minute, but Mario Aguiar was alert in warding off any danger. Both teams pressed ahead in the final few minutes, but the all-important goal evaded them, sending the match into a tie-breaker. In the decisive shoot-out, Marcus Carvalho and Vincent Barbosa missed for Fatorda, while Francis Colaco fumbled for the winners.
