Curtorim Youths clinched the trophy for 2nd Tribal Football Festival, defeating FC Margao 3-0 in a thrilling final witnessed by a 700-strong crowd at the Laymati Football Ground in Davorlim on Sunday.
The tournament, organized by the Youth Hostels Association of India, Margao unit, in collaboration with the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Goa, brought together talented tribal footballers from across the State.
Despite early missed opportunities from both sides, Curtorim seized control in the second half. Milagres Fernandes broke the deadlock, followed by goals from Fredy Hilario and Joy Hilario, securing a decisive win for the Curtorim Youths.
Beyond the final score, the tournament celebrated individual brilliance. Prestly Gomes of Navelim received the award for Best Goal of the Tournament, while Aston Fernandes of Curtorim Youths was named Best Goalkeeper. Fredy Hilario, also from Curtorim Youths, earned the Best Defender prize.
The event was graced by distinguished guests, including Margao MLA Digambar Kamat, who was the chief guest, and Mavelim MLA Ulhas Tuenkar, who inaugurated the festival. Other dignitaries present were Arvind Kuttikar (Director), Rohidas Naik and PI Pilomen Costa. John Nazareth compered while Laximikanth Mangeskar proposed a vote of thanks.
