Damodar HS, Guddi and Holy Cross High School, Bastora emerged champions in the boys and girls section respectively of inter-school hockey tournament organised by The Goa Mevericks Sports Club at Peddem Sports Complex.
Eighteen teams “ 11 boys and 7 girls teams - participated in the six-a-side tournament. In the boys final, Damodar HS, Guddi defeated Janata HS Mapusa 1-0 in a fast-paced and exciting match. In the girls final, Holy Cross HS, Bastora, defeated Govt HS Keri 1-0 in a tightly contested match.
The Player of the tournament among boys was Kiran Lamani of Janata HS, Mapusa while the Player of the tournament among girls was Prachi Yadav of Holy Cross HS, Bastora. The best goalkeeper among boys was Arman Kumar of Damodar HS Guddi while the best goalkeeper among girls was Mahalaxmi Chauhan of Damodar HS, Guddi.
Atul Pai Kane, President of the Goa Mavericks SC, presided and distributed the prizes along with the guests of honour, Diego D’Souza, a former India international goalkeeper and Carl de Souza, VP Goa Hockey.
In addition to the Pai Kane rolling trophies which were presented to the winners and runners-up teams, the players were also presented with hockey sticks donated by Joaquim Carvalho, Olympian and former India hockey captain.
