Don Bosco College, Panjim, emerged victorious in the inter-collegiate women’s tennikoit championship, held at Dr. Shayama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium on the Goa University campus recently.
In a fiercely contested final, Don Bosco defeated St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa, with a score of 2-0.
Kalpita Velkaskar led the charge for Don Bosco, securing a narrow win over Gauri Shetgaonkar with scores of 22-20, 17-21, 22-20. In the second match, Alpita Khedekar triumphed over Richa Gawade with a convincing 21-13, 21-15 victory. Kalpita Velkaskar was named Best Player of the Women’s Championship.
In the men's category, Shree Mallikarjun College and Shri Chetan Manju Desai College of Arts and Commerce, Canacona, secured the championship by defeating Government College of Arts, Science & Commerce, Khandola, with a score of 2-0.
Adarsh Gaonkar led the team with a solid win over Abhijeet Verekar (21-12, 21-8), while Kailash Velip defeated Dheeraj Bhati with scores of 21-8, 21-7. Adarsh Gaonkar was honored as Best Player of the Men’s Championship.
The valedictory ceremony for the Women’s Championship featured Chief Guest Ryan Pereira, College Director of Physical Education and Sports at Don Bosco College, alongside Balachandra B. Jadar, Assistant Director of Physical Education and Sports at Goa University. They presented medals and trophies to the finalists.
For the Men’s Championship, the ceremony was graced by Chief Guest Dr. Savio Leitao, College Director of Physical Education and Sports at Shree Mallikarjun College and Shri Chetan Manju Desai College, with Guest of Honor Nikita Naik, Assistant Professor in Physical Education at PES College of Education, Pomda. Together with Balachandra B. Jadar, they awarded medals and trophies to the winners.
