St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa won both men and women handball inter-collegiate championship 2024-25, organised by Goa University at Goa University ground, Taleigao, recently.
In the well contested Men’s championship finals, St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa defeated VVM's Shree Damodar College of Commerce and Economics, Margao with a final score of 24-20.
In the Women’s Championship finals, St. Xavier’s College defeated Rosary College of Commerce and Arts, Navelim with a final score of 8-6.
Earlier in the semifinals of the Women’s section, Rosary College defeated Government College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Sanquelim with a score of 10-3 and St. Xavier’s College defeated Don Bosco College, Panaji with a score of 9-4.
In the Men’s semifinals, Shree Damodar College defeated S. S. Dempo College of Commerce & Economics with a score of 11-9. St. Xavier’s College defeated Don Bosco College, Panjim with a score of 20-18.
The Best Player Men was awarded to Jabiullah Bankapur of Shree Damodar College, Margao and Best Player Women was bagged by Gauri Shetgaonkar of St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa.
In total 23 men’s and 19 women’s teams participated in the 4-day championship.
Chief Guest Dr. Francis Lobo, College Director of Physical Education and Sports, Rosary College, Navelim and Guest of Honor Ugam Prabhudessai, College Director of Physical Education and Sports, P.C.C.E. College, Verna and Clifford Britto, College Director of Physical Education and Sports, Don Bosco College Engineering, Fatorda along with Balachandra Jadar, Asst. Director of Physical Education and Sports, Goa University presented medals and trophies to the winners and runners-ups.
