Goa Police Football Cup to kick off from Feb 3

PANAJI: The Goa Police is set to host the 20th Edition of the Goa Police Football Cup, which is scheduled to commence from February 3 to 13.

The prestigious tournament, which dates back to 1968, remains one of the oldest and most celebrated sporting traditions in the state. A total of 15 professional teams will compete in this year’s edition. Beyond the competition, the event holds historical significance; the tournament’s iconic "Silver Glittering Trophy," standing at 5 feet 4 inches, was once recognized as the tallest trophy in India.

The primary objective of the tournament is to strengthen Police-Public relations through the spirit of sportsmanship. Matches will be held across North and South Goa The venues include: Duler football ground, Mapusa, Vagator football ground and Rosary ground, Navelim

In an effort to encourage community participation, the Goa Police has announced that all matches will be free of cost for football fans.

The opening ceremony and the inaugural match will be held on February 3 at the Duler Football Ground, Mapusa. Football enthusiasts are in for a treat as the tournament kicks off with a high-octane clash between Dempo Sports Club and FC Goa at 3 pm.

MARGAO: Dialgona Sports Club advanced to the quarterfinals of the TYC Trophy Football Tournament after a convincing 3-0 win over Enfermous Sports Club, at the Government Primary School ground, on Saturday.Vicky Pires opened the scoring for Dialgona, while Alister Ferrao added a brace to seal the victory. Former player Bonny Pires presented the Man of the Match award to Alister Ferrao for his outstanding performance.
