Goa Velha SC came from behind to down St Rock YC, Majorda 3-2 to enter the semi-finals of the II Cavelossim Villagers UK Cup, organised by Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim, at Fr Druston and Wellington ground, Cavelossim, on Saturday.
In a thrilling match, Majorda took an unexpected lead in the fifth minute when Leny Vaz crossed the ball from the right flank to Irfan Lal but Goa Velha keeper Praveen Naik was slow to collect the ball which was pounced by the attacker Irfan to give Majorda the lead.
However, Goa Velha came back with a vengeance and in a move from the right flank Franky crossed the ball to unmarked Bavesh Gauns to tap the ball in and restore parity for Goa Velha. Bavesh completed his brace in the very next minute when he was fed by Joseph Rodrigues in the penalty area to slot the ball past Nihal D'Costa under Majorda bar.
Goa Velha increased the lead in the 40th minute when Vikrant latched on to a pass by Arun Naik and dribbled past Loyd Dias to shoot the ball into the left top corner of Majorda goal to make it 3-1.
The match came alive when Anlon of Majorda scored a difficult goal when he side stepped two defenders and took a power-packed shot to make the score 2-3.
Goa Velha will now clash in the semis on November 22 with the winner of the last quarter-finals between Fr Agnel YC, Paroda and St Savio SC, Calangute.
