The Goan teams got off to a winning start in the 29th Sub Junior National Tennis Ball Cricket Championship which commenced in Kalol, Gujarat, on Saturday.
In the boys' match, Goa batted first and put up a commendable score of 83 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in their allotted 8 overs. Saiesh Naik top-scored with a contribution of 23 runs, while Pravit Naik remained unbeaten on 29 runs. Swapnil Patil also chipped in with a valuable 12 runs.
In reply, Telangana struggled against the Goa bowling attack and were bundled out for a mere 30 runs in 7.2 overs. Tushar Naik was the wrecker-in-chief for Goa, taking a fifer (5 wickets for 2 runs). Vikalp Borkar ably supported him with a bowling spell of 4/1 (4 wickets for 1 run). Saiesh Naik also chipped in with a wicket, finishing with figures of 1/9 (1 wicket for 9 runs). Goa emerged victorious by a convincing margin of 53 runs.
In the girls' match between Goa and Karnataka, Karnataka's batting woes set the tone for the match. They were skittled out for a paltry 15 runs in just 5.3 overs. Pratiksha Kerkar was the pick of the Goa bowlers, claiming a brilliant four-wicket haul for just 2 runs. Porva Gaude and Mausam Kapoor also contributed with a wicket each, conceding 0 and 2 runs respectively.
Chasing a meager target, Goa chased down the score in a mere 1.3 overs, winning the match by 7 wickets. Antra Naik (6 not out) and Sanvi Pagi (5 not out) ensured a quick and comfortable victory for Goa.
