Goan Triathlete Egipsy conquers second full Ironman


PANAJI

Calangute based tourism professional Wilbert Egipsy emerged as the first Goa based triathlete to successfully complete a second, full Ironman race.

The 45-year old completed the arduous race which comprises 3.8kms of open water swimming followed by 180 kms of cycling and a 42 km full marathon to be completed in 17 hours. The full Ironman (total 226 kms) is considered to be the toughest one-day, endurance sport in the world.

Egipsy successfully completed his second, Ironman triathlon race in Da nang, Vietnam on May 10 last month in a time of 15:36 hrs.

Egipsy had completed his first Ironman race in Subic Bay,Phillipines in June 2023. Besides the two, full Ironman races, Egipsy, has got three successful Ironman 70.3 races ( 113 kms) under his belt.

Egipsy plans to take part in the Goa Ultra marathon race on August 9 in Canacona and in the Ironman Goa 70.3 race on November 1 next.
