Gomes likely to contest GFA presidential election

MARGAO
Winds of change are blowing in the Goa Football Association (GFA) as the football body braces up to elect a new president on October 30.

Former GFA president and bureaucrat Elvis Gomes may jump in the fray for the post of the president as many clubs have approached him. "Things were not being run properly and much less professionally. There has been a lot of acrimony in the last few years. It does no good for Goan football. Obviously, the clubs are openly talking about the need for a change," a source said.

"Now seems to be the right time. For a long time now, he was vocal critic of the functioning of the GFA administration. A lot of club representatives have met Gomes and requested him to contest for the post of GFA president. It’s almost certain that he will be contesting," said the source.

Elections are to be held for the posts of one president, two vice-presidents, one treasurer and 18 executive committee members. Other candidates vying for the president post are Caitano Fernandes, president of FC Tuem, Welvino Menezes of Goa Velha and Savio Alemao of Churchill Brothers SC.
