Guardian Angel Sports Club, Curchorem blanked Churchill Brothers FC 2-0 in the GFA Goa Professional League, SAG Trinity ground, Benaulim, on Monday.
Guardian Angel took the lead twice through midfielder Joel Baretto who scored twice. Guardian Angel who held upper hand in the opening stanza, broke the deadlock when Joel Baretto slotted past the rival goalkeeper. They could have scored more goals but their forwards and midfielder fired wide off target.
At the other end, Churchill Brothers were not allowed for have look at the Curchorem goal.
Post resumption, Churchill Brothers lacked fluency in attack and failed to truly bully their opponents. Striker Trijoy Dias was kept tight under a leash by the rival defenders.
The Angels upped the tempo looking to double the score and in the 58th minute, Joel Baretto punted the ball to the far corner of the net.
Guardian Angel had the chance to increase their lead they squandered their chances from close range.
Despite Lumnimlen Haokip's late effort rattling the post, Churchill Brothers' frustration boiled over as captain Trijoy Dias received a red card in the dying minutes. Trijoy had a good start to the game having couple of shots on target, however, he had to end the game on a negative note.
Meanwhile, at Sirsaim, Omkar Shetgaonkar emerged the hero for Sesa FA, bagging a quick fire brace just before halftime to seal a comfortable 2-0 win over FC Goa. Shetgaonkar's goals put Sesa FA on 27 points from 15 games, solidifying their grip on the upper echelons of the table. FC Goa, on the other hand, were left searching for answers after failing to break down a resolute Sesa defense.
