Guardian Angel SC Curchorem secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Canacona Cultural and Social Club on Wednesday, earning a spot in the quarterfinals of the 45th Cana-Benaulim Soccer Tournament. The match took place at Dando Ground in Benaulim.
The decisive moment came just four minutes into the game when Gerito Fernandes scored the only goal, putting Guardian Angel ahead. This early lead forced Canacona to adopt a defensive posture for much of the first half, which ended with Guardian Angel maintaining their slim advantage.
In the second half, Canacona dominated possession, with standout playmaker Terrance Lobo orchestrating several attacking plays. Despite their persistent pressure and multiple promising chances, Canacona's forwards were unable to convert any opportunities, leading to frustration.
The final ten minutes of the match were marked by intense action as Guardian Angel withstood a series of Canacona attacks. Their resolute defence held firm, ensuring a 1-0 win and securing their advancement to the quarterfinals.
