Corjem Sports Club secured their place in the quarterfinals of the Batora United 9-a-side Football Tournament after a dramatic 6-5 victory in a penalty shootout against Novowaddo Sports Club. The match, held at St Alex Church Ground in Curtorim on Wednesday, was organised by Batora United.
The game began at a fast pace, with both teams pressing hard to score. Despite numerous attempts, neither side managed to break the deadlock, and the first half ended in a 0-0 draw.
In the second half, Novowaddo SC took the lead when Delly Fernandes scored a powerful header in the 40th minute. Corjem SC equalised in the 60th minute with a precise placement shot by Asford Fernandes. With the score tied at 1-1, the match proceeded to a penalty shootout.
In the ensuing tiebreaker, Corjem SC emerged as the better shooters, clinching the win 6-5. Austin Fernandes of Novowaddo SC was named Man of the Match and received the prize from Elton Dias, a member of Batora United.
