Varca Veterans prevailed over Vasco Veterans 6-3 via the tiebreaker to move ahead in the Pogo Boys Veterans football tournament played at Merces Church ground on Wednesday.
Vasco took an early lead in the first half when Nelson scored with a header from a long goal kick by Sheikh, making it 1-0. Despite numerous attacking attempts, Varca couldn't find the back of the net initially. Vasco had opportunities to extend their lead, even hitting the post twice, but they were unable to capitalise.
In the dying minutes of the game, Romelo of Varca delivered a precise goal kick, which Pelle skillfully placed into the net to equalise the score at 1-1.
In the tie-breaker, Varca Veterans showed their composure, with Jose, Romelo, Pelle, and Charles all converting their penalties. Vasco Veterans struggled with only Sheikh and Nelson managing to score, ultimately giving Varca a 4-2 win in the shootout.
