Guardian Angel Sports Club from Curchorem secured a 3-1 victory over Navelim Sporting Club to claim the championship of the Cana-Benaulim Inter-Village Football Tournament. The match, held at Dando Football Ground in Benaulim on Sunday, was organized by the Cana-Benaulim Sporting Association.
The scoring began with Jaison Fernandes of Guardian Angel SC, who found the net in the 15th minute to give his team an early lead. Navelim SC equalized in the 29th minute when Ronaldo Pereira converted a penalty kick. However, Guardian Angel SC regained the lead shortly after, with Preston Castanha scoring in the 33rd minute. Godwin Fernandes sealed the win for Guardian Angel SC with a third goal in the 46th minute.
Guardian Angel SC were awarded Rs 60,000 and a trophy, while Navelim SC received Rs 50,000 and a trophy for their efforts.
The prize distribution ceremony was graced by Capt Viriato Fernandes, MP of South Goa, who presented the awards to the winners and runners-up. The event was attended by Rev Fr Ligorine D'Costa, Capt Venzy Viegas, MLA of Benaulim constituency, and other dignitaries and club officials.
