The Golden Jubilee “ 50th Edition of the All Goa Cycle Race organised by Guirdolim Club in Association with Sudesh Bhise saw 62 participants take part in the event.
The race was flagged off by Sudesh Bhise along with John Fernandes cutting the ribbon.
Mark Jose Fernandes from Loutolim with a timing of 36.04 minutes (new record for the course) won the first place in the Men open category, with Jewel Viegas from Chinchinm in second place and Ashwel Fernandes from Camorlim in third place.
In the women category, young Kiara Araujo from Taleigao came first with Eliza Mascarenhas from Varca in second and Selza Coutinho from Margao in third place.
In the College Category, Valancio Fernandes from Rosary College Navelim stood first being closely followed by Deep Raikar of Shree Damodar College, Margao and Artham Baromuly of Chowgule College being 3rd in the standings.
The team championship for the College Category was bagged by St Joseph Vaz College, Cortalim with Government College Quepem being placed second. The above 45 years Category was won by John D’costa while young Randonneur Vicente Fernandes from Cotta-Chandor claimed the first prize from among the Chandor-Guirdolim participants.
Special prizes were awarded toA shwell Fernandes- State champion in cycling and Adlin Mascarenhas for being a Super Randonneur (Sr.). Earlier to commemorate the event a souvenir was released by Chief Guest Yuri Alemao, Leader of Opposition and MLA of Cuncolim Constituency. The legends of the All Goa Cycle Race from yesteryears were also felicitated namely Pandarinath Naik, Peter Rodrigues, Yashwant Tari, Minguel Vaz, Manoj Naik, Julius Colaco and Antonio Fernandes. Valanco Fernanades a special cyclist was also felicitated along with Vicente Fernandes for being the youngest Randonneur.
The Lifetime achievement award was presented to late Camilo D’costa for having started the All Goa Cycle Race 50 years back and to Edmundo Miranda for his contribution to Sports and services rendered to Guirdolim Club.
