Football is one of the most powerful platforms for promoting equality and inclusion, and for empowering girls, women and athletes in all their diversity.Sports among girls and women is taken very seriously by the Karuna Football Federation and over the years it has championed strong female teams and events in a pursuit to break down barriers to pave the way for a more equal and inclusive society through different initiatives.
March 8 is celebrated as International Women’s Day, the foundation is organising the National Masters Women’s Football Festival at the SVD Seminary complex, Raia from March 8-10.
The event has been sponsored by the Vedanta Group who have been promoting women's football for over the past six years by way of sponsorship in the GFA-organised Vedanta Women’s Football League in Goa. The Hotel Grace Majestic has also come forward to support the 5 state teams boarding over the four days in which strong contenders Kerala, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and hosts Goa will be playing.
The festival has attracted about 100 plus national and international players who merit to be called as legends of the game in the country.
The festival is being played in 40-plus and 55-plus categories in a seven-a-side format.
The opening match is slotted between hosts Goa and Maharashtra at 7.30 am on March 8 in the senior category to be followed by other round-robin league matches.
All the players will be tested in 8 different health parameters during the festival by the South Goa District Hospital staff Margao to give them first-hand information regarding their physical health conditions.
