MARGAO: Jolly Boys of Sinaibhag edged past Fondegal Sports Club 3-2 via the tie-breaker in the inaugural match of Batora United Club Curtorim inter-ward football tournament, at St Alex Church ground, Curtorim, on Tuesday.
In the first session, Kevin D'silva shoot from the edge of the box missed the frame while Ryan Rodrigues of Sinaibhag SC missed the target by whiskers before half time.
After resumption, Crizol Pacheco of Sinaibhag SC narrowly missed the scoring opportunities as his shot beat the goalkeeper but ball got stuck before the goal line due to water logging and Fondegal's Caitan Mascarenhas cleared the ball for a corner kick.
Both teams played attacking football and got equal opportunity but found it difficult to control the game and made way for penalty shoot out.
In resultant tie-breaker, Sinaibhag SC scored through Nethan Sequeira, Crizol Pacheco and Ryan Rodrigues while Melvin Mascarenhas and Reuben Fernandes. Earlier the tournament was declared open by sports reporter Inacio Noronha. Melvin Mascarenhas was awarded man of the match.
