Kingfisher Boys of Madkai won the U-23 Ponda Taluka tennis-ball cricket tournament organised by Madkai Strikers in memory of late Umakant Gaude, at Madkai Panchayat ground recently.
The 10-team tournament was played in a league cum knockout format. In the finals, Kingfisher Boys defeated Gajeshwari Strikers of Usgao by four wickets to emerge the champions of the tournament.
After winning the toss, Kingfisher Boys of Madkai elected to field first. Gajeshwari Strikers posted 94-6 in 8 overs with Jayesh Gaude top-scoring with a 20-ball 46. Deepesh Gaonkar (14 off 4) and Abhishek Gaonkar (13 of 7) were the other main scorers.
Kingfisher Boys Madkai achieved the target, scoring 99-6 with five balls to spare. Yash Naik scored an unbeaten 27 off 7 balls, while Vikrant Gaude made a nine-ball 20 and Laxman Gouda struck an unbeaten 11 off six balls.
Yash was named as Man of the match of the final for his brilliant knock. Somesh Prabhudessai of Shiv Sai Shiroda won the Player of the tournament award. Other awards: Best batsman “ Abhishek Gaonkar (Gajeshwari Strikers Usgao), Best bowler “ Samarth Naik (Gajeshwari Strikers Usgao), Best fielder “ Vikrant Gaude (Kingfisher Boys Madkai), Best disciplined team “ Mahalaxmi United.
