FC Goa coach Manolo Marquez expressed his disappointment after their journey in the ISL season came to an end with a 2-0 defeat against Mumbai City FC in the semi-final second leg.
Marquez highlighted the possession stats, stating, "the possession of the ball is maybe one of the biggest lies in football," as despite having more possession, they managed just one shot on target throughout the game.
Reflecting on the match, Marquez felt that after Mumbai City FC scored the first goal, the game was practically over, despite FC Goa's ability to potentially score two goals. He also admitted, "maybe I was wrong with the line-up," hinting at possible tactical errors.
Despite the defeat, Marquez congratulated Mumbai City FC and looked ahead to the final, saying, "Let's see what happens again between the two biggest teams in India."
Regarding Lallianzuala Chhangte's impact, Marquez acknowledged his threat, stating, "when he's in good shape, he's a player who, the difference in a game can be Chhangte."
Marquez highlighted the team's mentality as an area for improvement, emphasizing the need for consistency. He pointed out positive aspects of their season but admitted that "maybe it's still not enough" and expressed a desire for more ambition.
Reflecting on the match, Marquez felt that FC Goa performed better in the first leg but admitted that they stopped playing effectively after Mumbai City FC scored the first goal in the second leg. He criticised the quality of the game, stating, "the game was not very good."
Marquez clarified that Mumbai City FC's defensive approach wasn't the reason for the result, emphasizing that they had opportunities on the counter-attack.
Marquez at the end congratulated Mumbai City FC again and offered insights into FC Goa's performance and areas for improvement, showing both disappointment and a forward-looking attitude.
