Panaji: Ahead of FC Goa’s opening match of the new Indian Super League (ISL) season at PJN Stadium in Fatorda against Jamshedpur FC, midfielder Boris Singh shared his thoughts on the preseason, his expectations for the upcoming season, and his stance on celebrating goals.
Boris Singh felt positive about the team’s preseason, describing it as productive. He mentioned that the team has been preparing well, having faced strong opponents from Australia and Argentina. This preparation, he believes, will be crucial as they head into the new season.
Reflecting on his performance in the Bandodkar Cup, Singh expressed satisfaction but also a desire to improve. He highlighted his focus on enhancing his contributions in the attacking third of the field. “I need to be more effective in creating goals and assists to help my team win more matches,” he said. He acknowledged that while his previous season was good, he aims to be sharper and more focused this time around.
Singh also discussed his role on the field. He has occasionally been used as a right back, a position he’s familiar with from his Under-17 World Cup days. However, he prefers playing as a winger, where he feels more comfortable contributing to both defense and attack. He noted that modern full backs, unlike before, are often involved in attacking plays and overlapping runs.
On changes in the team compared to last year, Singh mentioned that while there are new players, the core of the team remains strong. He is confident in the abilities of the new members and believes they will integrate well into the squad. “The team is in good shape, and everyone is giving their best,” he added.
Looking ahead to their match against Jamshedpur FC, Singh spoke with respect for the opposition. He acknowledged their past encounters with Jamshedpur FC but emphasized his commitment to FC Goa and his goal of winning the trophy with his current team.
When asked about the possibility of scoring against Jamshedpur FC, Singh revealed that he would not celebrate if he scored. Instead, he hinted at a different kind of gesture but kept the details to himself.
