Guardian Angel SC Curchorem triumphed over Maina Sports Club with a 7-6 victory in a dramatic tiebreaker to clinch the Benaulim Villagers Cup football tournament, organised by Dando Boys Club Benaulim, at St. John Baptista ground, Benaulim on Sunday.
Guardian Angel SC initially took the lead through a goal by Milton Fernandes, but Maina SC equalised with a strike from Milagres Fernandes. The match proceeded to a tiebreaker, where Guardian Angel SC's Rayan Menezes, Preston Castanha, Cyril Dias, Godwin Costa, Ivo Costa, and Fedrich Fernandes each converted their penalties. For Maina SC, Caitano Viegas, Milagres Fernandes, Johnson Bohitand, and Maldino Fernandes scored.
Mr. Savio Alemao, social worker and sports enthusiast, was the chief guest at the event and awarded the prizes to the winners and runners-up. He was joined by Nelly Rodrigues, Ex-ZP Member; Sima Shanke, Sarpanch of Seraulim; Anthony Pango, Senior Vice President of GFA; Anthony Leo Fernandes and Andrew Ferrao, both Executive Members of GFA, along with other dignitaries and club officials.
The winning team, Guardian Angel SC, received a cash prize of ₹50,000 and a trophy, while Maina SC earned ₹40,000 and a trophy.
