Nerul Sports Club scored a hard fought 2-0 win over St Savio Sports Club, Calangute to move into the semi-finals of 16th London Trophy inter village football tournament, organised by Goa Velha Sports Club, Goa Velha Sports Club ground.
In a fast paced encounter between North Goa giants, Nerul started attacking from the kick off. Deu Sangelkar's shot into the waiting hands of St Savio Sports Club keeper Cydon D'Souza after being beautifully put through on goal by Bhavesh Candolkar in the eighth minute. Nehal Naik of Nerul Sports Club tried his luck with a long range effort which sailed over in the 14th minute. Nerul Sports Club missed a glorious opportunity to surge ahead through Prajyot Shirodkar who shot wide with only the St Savio Sports Club keeper to beat after being put through by Deu Sangelkar in the 17th minute. Both the teams were locked goalless at half time.
Deu Sangelkar headed over the St. Savio SC crossbar from close off a corner taken by Prajyot Shirodkar in the 40th minute. Prajyot Shirodkar of Nerul Sports Club saw his long range effort brilliantly saved by a diving St. Savio Sports Club keeper Cydon D'Souza in the 44th minute. Bhavesh Candolkar put Nerul SC ahead in the 47th minute when he lobbed the ball over the St. Savio Sports Club keeper Cydon D'Souza into the Calangute nets of a ball from Prajyot Shirodkar.
St. Savio Sports Club went all out for an equaliser but a Saish Palyekar shot was well saved by the Nerul SC keeper Krupesh Bandodkar in the 51st minute. Substitute Anand Madgaonkar of Nerul SC saw his effort from close brilliantly saved by St Savio SC keeper Cydon D'Souza in the 59th minute. Prajyot Shirodkar of Nerul Sports Club made it 2-0 in favour of Nerul in the 62nd minute. Substitute Saish Palyekar of St. Savio SC failed to reduce the margin when he saw his long range effort was put out for a corner by the Nerul SC keeper Krupesh Bandodkar in the 63rd minute.
Prajyot Shirodkar was awarded the Man of the Match by John Viegas, Member of Goa Velha Sports Club.
