Goa ended their wait for a gold medal at Khelo India Yourth Games 2022 on Monday when they clinched two gold in Yogasana. The State had not won a gold medal in the last two editions of the Games.
Niral Mahesh Wadekar was the star for Goa as she first won Artistic Single gold and then helped her team win the yellow metal in Artistic Group Girls event. In the competition held at Tau Devi Lal Sports Complex Yogasana Arena in Panchkula, Haryana, Niral scored 134.29 points to win the U-18 gold ahead of competitors from Maharashtra (silver with a score of 132.09 and bronze with a score of 131.9).
Goa then won the gold in Artistic Group U-18 Girls as Niral, Aashnee Bhat Sarmalkar, Frazeen Zakati, Yashica Chevli and Manaswi Das scored 127.5 points for the top position. Maharashtra won the silver with 126.9 points and Tamil Nadu won bronze with a total of 118.5 points.
On Sunday, Goa had opened its medal account with a silver won by Manaswi Das and Yashica Chevli in Artistic Pairs of the Yogasana competition.
