PGML 2.0: Manas Mavericks win super over thriller

Manas Mavericks edged out Dempo Challengers in a nail-biting finish in the ongoing PGML 2.0 at the Panjim Gymkhana, after a tied score forced the match into a super over while Priority Titans completed three wins on the trot by defeating defending champions Prescon Panthers by eight runs on Sunday.

Dempo Challengers scored 138 for six led by Kiran Shirwaikar's 36. Jamir Carol, who was adjudged man of the match, took three wickets for the Mavericks for 12 runs in three overs. Manas Mavericks were on course with Manish Kakode and Sunil Rathod scoring 34 and 37 runs respectively before the bottom order folded to leave the scores tied at 138. Vallabh Haldankar took 3 for 17 for the Challengers.

In the super over, Manas Mavericks scored 12 and Dempo could only muster nine runs. In the earlier match, Vedant Naik's 31-ball 40 set up Priority Titans' 128-9. In reply, Prescon Panthers fell for 120 with opener Mehul Jirage top-scoring with a 29-ball 34.

Carmona SC edge into quarterfinals
MARGAO: Carmona SC defeated Navelim Villagers Union 2-1 to move into the quarterfinals of Varca Panchayat Cup organised by Varca Sports Club, at Varca football ground on Sunday.

Navelim Villagers shot into the lead in the 55th minute through a Presley Gomes strike. In the 58th minute, Carmona equalised through Bleston Rodrigues. Bleston Rodrigues scored his second with a powerful shot giving no chance to Jeet Gupta. Bleston Rodrigues was adjudged the Man of the Match.

U-14 football: Mount Mary win, Infant Jesus held
MARGAO: Mount Mary HS Chinchinim made short work of St Jude HS Betalbatim 3-1 in the Sir Jawaharlal Da Costa Under-14 Inter School Football Tournament organised by United Sports Club of Seraulim at the Base, Seraulim.

Mount Mary scored through Sean Rebello, Godfrey Simoes and Rakesh Singha. St Jude scored through Sebastiao Severes. Meanwhile, Infant Jesus Colva drew against Holy Cross Cavelossim 2-2. Ralston Fernandes scored a brace for Colva while Arun Chavan and Jason Pereira equalised for Holy Cross Cavelossim. Loyola HS defeated Vidya Vikas Margao 3-1. Andreas Furtado, Mitson Barbosa and Saksham Shanke scored a goal each for Loyola. Enrique Rodrigues netted for Vidya Vikas Margao.

In other results, Mae Dos Pobres Nuvem hammered St Anthony's Majorda 7-1 while Pepertual Succour Navelim defeated St Francis Xavier Macazana 8-0. In the girls' category, Vidya Vikas Margao defeated Infant Jesus Colva 6-0, Perpetual Succour Navelim thrashed St Anthony's Majorda 9-1 and Fatima Convent Margao defeated St Jude Betalbatim 4-2.
