Raia Sporting crushed Betalbatim SC 5-1 and moved into the quarterfinals of the 49th Custodio Memorial Trophy football tournament organised by Raia Sporting Club at Raia Village Panchayat ground on Wednesday.
Loyd Cardozo, the striker of Raia, should have netted but Klusner Pereira, the defender of Betalbatim, foiled the former's move in the 6th minute. Ronaldo Coelho's long-ranger then failed to pop up into the Raia net in the 9th minute. Two minutes later, a free kick taken by Oliver Dsouza was connected by Klysner Pereira who was prowling in the Raia box and rose high for a glancing header, 1-0, in the 15th minute.
Once again, Ronaldo Coelho's move was foiled by Josyel Cardozo, the defender of Raia. Young up-and-coming player Danny Fernandes, the striker of Raia, took a shot but was denied by the Betalbatim crossbar in the 20th minute. Jayson Gauncar of Raia equalised with a placement shot in the 32nd minute.
In the second half, Raia captain Llyod Cardozo changed the game plan and the team fired on all cylinders and netted four more goals through Jouston Barbosa, Danny Fernandes, Lloyd Cardozo and Lloyd Cardozo in the 46th, 48th, 54th and 60th minutes respectively to make it 5-1.
The Man of the match award was presented to Lloyd Cardozo of Raia SC at the hands of ex-Panch of VP Raia, Caitan Fernandes.
