Rossman Cruz Nagoa SC edged past Navelim Sporting Club 2-1 to emerge champions in the Curtorim Villagers Cup inter-village football tournament played at DSYA ground, Curtorim on Sunday.
Rossman were leading by two goals at the breather. Beneston scored both the goals in the 10th and 14th minutes of the match. Navelim failed to score as Presley and Rohan missed chances. Later in the second session, Clinton Niasso also missed an easy scoring chance as he shot in the hands of Rossman’s keeper.
Rossman had an opportunity to enhance the lead but Imamsab's powerful shot was saved brilliantly by Jeet Gupta, the goalkeeper of Navelim. Presley Gomes reduced the margin for Navelim and they had a golden opportunity to take the match into the tiebreaker but Terence Miranda’s header hit the crossbar and went out.
Rossman Cruz Nagoa SC were richer by Rs 60,000. Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, MLA of Curtorim, was the chief guest and handed over the prizes in the presence of Michelle Rebello, ZP Member of Curtorim, and Rui Menezees, ex-sarpanch of Curtorim and other dignitaries and club officials.
Individual prizes: First scorer of the final, best forward and man of the finals - Beneston Barreto (Rossman Cruz SC), Best goalkeeper of the final- Aston Braganza (Rossman Cruz SC), best defender - Noel D’Silva (Rossman Cruz SC), Best half - Desmond Pereira (Rossman Cruz SC), Best player of the tournament - Clinton Niasso (Navelim Sporting Club), Best disciplined team - CAC Cansaulim.
