Archbishop-Patriarch of Goa and Daman Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferrão on Friday exhorted the six newly ordained diocesan priests to always have a vision of faith, an attitude of humility and a spirit of obedience, as they embark on their mission of ministerial priesthood.
He was sharing this during the ordination ceremony of Fr Prinson Oliveira (Tilamola), Fr Ashliff Correia (Velim), Fr Mowin D’Costa (Utorda), Fr Frankey Carvalho (Maina-Corgao), Fr Movin Fernandes (Paroda) and Fr Afzal Fernandes (Paroda) at the Se Cathedral in Old Goa.
A large number of priests, nuns and lay faithful were present at the ceremony, which was conducted on the theme “Pattlavdar Jezuche, Munniari Seveche” (Ministers of Service in the footsteps of Jesus).
“As our six brothers have chosen this theme of being true followers of Jesus Christ, their duty from now on is to be like Christ, follow him in every way and to try becoming Christ to the people they serve,” said Cardinal Ferrão.
“They may have to sacrifice, change their lives, and be men of service. Just as Jesus became a servant for our sake, they need to be at the service of the people, a service done with joy and love,” he added.
In their priesthood, Archbishop Ferrão urged the newly ordained priests to build a collaborative Church involving all the faithful and also advised them to always have a vision of faith, an attitude of humility and a spirit of obedience.
The newly ordained priests have been appointed as assistant to the parish priests: Fr Prinson Oliveira at Cortalim, Fr Ashliff Correia at Sanvordem, Fr Mowin D’Costa at Arambol, Fr Frankey Carvalho at Cuncolim, Fr Movin Fernandes at Holy Spirit Church Margao and Fr Afzal Fernandes at Chandor.
