SAG removes outdated data of dead and retired coaches from website

MARGAO

Sports Authority of Goa (SAG) taking cognizance of July 29 front page report of The Goan “Dead, retd coaches still call shots on SAG website” and “SAG faces flak for outdated website data on coaches” has removed the outdated data from its website.

The SAG website had details of some 150 odd coaches, spread across the length and breadth of the state and also featured names of coaches who had retired and some of them who had expired.

The website also had details as to where the coaches were training, the day and time of their training and also the names of the schools, clubs, gymnasiums and grounds they were available for training.

According to the website data, SAG has the most number of coaches for football, 20 in all, followed by cricket at 19 besides coaching in 28 other sports disciplines but none for tennis.

The news of SAG website showing outdated information was also raised by Velim MLA Cruz Silva in the recently concluded assembly session with the AAP legislator mentioning The Goan report and the need to remove the old and outdated from the website and update it immediately.

A visit to the SAG website http://www.tsag.org/ reveals that information regarding coaching facilities reads as "Coaches Details Will Be Uploaded Soon".

Silva also demanded that the government should appoint new coaches as he said the average age of the SAG coaches now stands at 50 years.

“Government should appoint more coaches, young coaches to infuse new blood,” he said, while demanding the appointment of coaches in hockey in Chinchinim and Velim villages to take care of the sporting needs of the schools in his constituency.

“Mount Mary HS Chinchinim and St Xavier HS Velim are two schools which have hockey equipment but need hockey coaches and urge the sports minister to appoint coaches,” he had said.
