Salcete Football Club emerged victorious in the GFA U-17 Division 2 final after registering a solitary goal win over Vasco City Sports and Cultural Club, at the Nagoa Panchayat Sports Complex, on Monday.
Striker Pio Gomindes delivered the winning goal in the 35th minute, assisted by teammate Josley Gomes. This victory marked sweet revenge for Salcete after previous defeats against Vasco City.
Salcete dominated the first half controlling possession. Despite their strong start, the first half ended in a stalemate. However, Gomindes' strike in the second half proved to be decisive.
Salcete continued to pressure Vasco after the break, but Vasco City pushed back in the final ten minutes, desperately seeking an equaliser. Salcete goalkeeper Rio Rebello stood tall with vital saves to preserve the clean sheet and secure the championship.
The Salcete camp erupted in celebration after the final whistle. They expressed gratitude to the club management, technical and administrative staff and their loyal fans.
Salcete Club Secretary Jacinto Fernandes commended the team's efforts throughout the season. "I thank the players for their dedication and the entire staff," he said. "This is a fantastic moment for our fans. While we celebrate this title, the players remain hungry for more. We will continue striving to achieve further success."
The final was graced by Dr Caitano Fernandes, President of the Goa Football Association as the chief guest. Other dignitaries included Anthony Pango (Senior Vice President, GFA South Goa), GFA executive members, and officials.
