Sao Jose de Areal SC moved to the semis by defeating hosts Guirdolim Club 2-0 in the 17th All Goa Guirdolim Panchayat Cup, organised by Guirdolim Club, at Chandor Church Sports Complex, on Friday.
The match started with Areal dictating terms and it was not long before they tasted success in the 13th minute through Alister Monteiro who shot from top of the 18-yard box giving no chance to the Guirdolim keeper.
Guirdolim did attempt to hit back but their forwards could not capitalise on the couple of chances that came their way. They both went into the break with Areal leading by 1-0.
After change of ends, Guirdolim came out attacking but the Areal defence was rock solid and gave no chance to the Guirdolim strikers. Taking advantage of a counter attack in the 56th minute, Aaron Andrew of Areal sealed the match with a placement shot to make it 2-0 and take his team to the semi-finals.
Alister Monteiro of Areal was presented the Man of the match award by Asst Sports Secretary of Guirdolim Club Sevaraj D'costa.
