MARGAO
Siolim Veterans booked their place in the quarterfinals of the 23rd All Goa Veterans Tournament, organized by Flame of Unity Sports Club, with a hard-fought 1“0 win over Taleigao Veterans in a tightly contested encounter.
The match kicked off with both teams adopting a cautious approach, focusing more on containment than creativity. As a result, the first half ended goalless, with neither side willing to take early risks.
After the break, Taleigao came out with renewed energy and pressed high, putting the Siolim defense under sustained pressure. They came close on several occasions”hitting the woodwork, misfiring inside the box, and failing to capitalize on promising chances.
Just when the match seemed destined for a penalty shootout, Siolim's Marcus Carvalho capitalized on a rare defensive error, calmly finishing past the goalkeeper to net the decisive goal.
Carvalho’s late strike proved enough to seal victory for Siolim Veterans, who celebrated their passage into the next round. Meanwhile, Taleigao were left to rue their missed opportunities and a game that slipped through their fingers.
