Sporting Clube de Goa registered 2-0 win over United Sports Club in the I-League 2 match, at Kalyani Stadium, Kolkata on Sunday.
Sporting Clube de Goa enjoyed the better exchanges and ball possession in the early moments of the game when Joyson Coutinho misfired from hand shaking distance. However, the persistent forays paid off with dividends as in the 33rd minute, Allister Anthony fired home giving no chance for the Kolkata goalkeeper Suvam Sen off through pass from Joel Colaco.
At the other end, United Sports Club failed to function as a cohesive unit. In the 39th minute, United Sports Club defender made a mess of pass and Biswa Darjee took the chance and beat the rival goalkeeper.
Crossing over, Sporting Clube de Goa continued in same vein with their forwards trouble the rival defence with orchestrated raids Doyal Alves and Joyson squandered chances. United Club sports club forwards were kept quiet by the Flaming Oranje defenders.
Sporting Clube de Goa Assistant coach Climax Lawrence expressed his happiness with the 2-0 victory stressing that the victory was well-deserved and against a very good team. Lawrence said after the match: “I am happy with the result. We played an excellent match against a good team. We managed to come back with our character in the second half, and this is what we always need.”
He continued: “We used a lot of players and everyone is performing excellently, but we must play with the same performance throughout the match.”
