It was a somber Monday as the football community in Goa mourned the passing of Cyril Andrade, affectionately known as 'Dotor,' who died after a brief illness in Nuvem.
Legendary footballer Mauricio Afonso and others have offered their condolences. “Very sad to hear about the demise of Cyril Andrade. My heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones,” stated Anthony Pango, Senior Vice President of the Goa Football Association.
Cyril Andrade had recently retired from the health department and was a prominent club official and passionate organiser of football. He played an integral role as part of the medical team for the popular I-League. “A talented mimicry artist, his untimely passing is a great loss for many,” said Elvis Gomes, former President of the Goa Football Association.
Derrick Pereira, former India Under-23 coach and Technical Director of FC Goa, expressed his sadness, stating, “Cyril worked tirelessly behind the scenes in Goan football for many years. He will be greatly missed by the sporting community.”
Mauricio Afonso, former India captain and state coach, also shared his grief over Cyril's death.
For Remy Colaco, head coach of the state women’s football team, the loss is deeply personal. He fondly recalled Cyril's proactive role as president of the Parish Youth Club in Nuvem, highlighting the significant impact he had on the community.
