St Anthony’s SC of Assolda edged past Goa Velha SC 3-2 to book their place in the finals of the 15th St Anthony’s Festival Cup inter-village football tournament played at Moll ground, Assolda on Saturday.
After a barren regulation period, Victorino Fernandes, Viton Fernandes and Sildon Peixoto scored for St Anthony’s SC, while Kunal Kundaikar and Uday Diukar shot on target for Goa Velha SC.
DBO Fatorda reach Custodio quarters
Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda made short work of Navelim Sporting Club 2-0 to cruise into the quarterfinals of the 50th Custodio Memorial inter-village football tournament organized by Raia Sporting Club at Raia Panchayat ground on Saturday.
Richie Vaz and Francis Andrade missed easy scoring chances for DBO Fatorda early on. Francis then gave the lead to DBO in the 12th minute. Clinton Niasso had an opportunity to neutralize the lead for Navelim SC but his free kick just missed the target.
Francis later doubled the lead for DBO Fatorda in the 70th minute. Francis of DBO Fatorda received the Man of the Match award from Navnath Shirodkar, ex-teacher of Our Lady of Snows High School, Raia.
Jaju Memorial Trophy from July 3
The Jaju Memorial Trophy inter-village football tournament, organised by Young Strikers Benaulim, will start on July 3 at St John Baptist grond, Dando, Benaulim.
The top 12 teams which will participate in the tournament are Ambelim SC, St Anthony Club Colva, Cuncolim Union, Varca SC, Carmona SC, PY Nuvem, Curtorim Gymkhana, Candolim SC, CAC Cansaulim, Dunes SC Mandrem, Navelim Sporting and hosts Young Strikers Benaulim. The Finals are slated for July 16.
