The Goa Athletics Association (GAA), under the aegis of the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) and in collaboration with the Sports Authority of Goa, is set to host the Padma Bhushan Dr. Manohar Parrikar Memorial 56th Goa State Athletics Championship “ 2025 from August 7 to 9 at the Athletics Stadium, Cujira, Bambolim.
The championship will witness participation from more than 1350 athletes from across the State, competing in a wide range of age categories including Under-8, Under-10, Under-12, Under-14, Under-16, Under-18, Under-20, and the Open category for both men and women. The event will feature a full spectrum of track and field events such as sprints, middle and long-distance races, hurdles, steeplechase, relays, jumps, throws, combined events, and race walks.
All events will be conducted as per the rules and regulations of the Athletics Federation of India and World Athletics, ensuring top-notch competition standards. The Timing, Scoring, and Results (TSR) system, approved by AFI, will be employed to manage the meet, which is also the official qualifying platform for selection of Goan athletes for all AFI national-level championships.
The grand opening of the championship will be held on Friday at 9:00 AM at the Athletic Stadium, Bambolim. The Chief Guest for the occasion will be Dr. Pramod Sawant, Chief
Minister of Goa. The ceremony will also be graced by Adv. Narendra K. Sawaikar, NRI Commissioner, Government of Goa & President, Goa Athletics Association; Dr. Geeta S. Nagvenkar, Executive Director, Sports Authority of Goa; and Vilas Satarkar, Headmaster, Dr. K.B. Hedgewar High School, Cujira.
The Championship will conclude with a Closing & Presentation Ceremony on Saturday at 5:30 PM at the same venue. The Esteemed Chief Guest for the closing function will be Rohan Khaunte, Minister for Tourism, IT, E&C, Printing and Stationery, Government of Goa & Subash Phaldessai, Minister for Social Welfare, River Navigation, Archives and Archaeology, Government of Goa. The event will also witness the presence of Adv. Narendra K. Sawaikar, NRI Commissioner, Government of Goa & President, Goa Athletics Association and Dr. Ajay Gaude, Director, DSYA, Government of Goa.
