In a major boost to the game of badminton in Goa, young and aspiring players are set to showcase their talent. Six teams, comprising around 200 players, will be vying for honors at the ‘Vedanta Ultimate Badminton League’.
The 2-day mega event will be organized by the Goa Sports Club, with Vedanta Sesa Goa as the title sponsor, in association with the Goa Badminton Association. The event will take place on 25-26 January 2025, at the Indoor Badminton Stadium, Tennis Stadium, Mapusa, and is expected to witness keen and exciting competition.
This is the fifth year of the league, with its previous iterations titled the Vasco Premier League and the Goa Badminton League. Vedanta Sesa Goa is partnering with GSC for the first time. In the previous four editions, player participation increased from 90 to almost 200.
Speaking on Vedanta Sesa Goa’s support for the Ultimate Badminton League, Navin Jaju, CEO of Sesa Goa, said, “We, at Vedanta Sesa Goa, are proud to support the Ultimate Badminton League. This initiative provides tremendous exposure and opportunity to budding badminton players, helping them realize their potential and aspirations. Encouragement to sportspersons is central to our philosophy of ‘giving back’ to society meaningfully. It is extremely heartening to note that around 200 young players will get to test their skills and benefit from the event, contributing to the progress of the sport in Goa. Adding to the sentiment, Manoj, President of the Goa Badminton Association, said: “The Vedanta Ultimate Badminton League serves as a mega feeder platform to identify and nurture emerging badminton talent. At GBA, we are committed to creating the right opportunities and favorable conditions to promote the sport in Goa.”
The six participating teams in this year’s edition are Sparkling Stars, Ace Raqueteers, Ashers’s Smashers, Flying Gravity, Priority Titans, and Badminators. Teams will be competing in the Men’s and Women’s Categories ‘A’ & ‘B’, and Veterans 40+ & 50+ Categories ‘A’ & ‘B’ respectively. All participating players will receive a medal, and the winners will receive special trophies as well.
