Wilred Leisure shoot into quarterfinals

Wilred Leisure Sports Club edged past CAC Sports & Social Club 4-2 via tiebreaker to move into the quarterfinals of the Varca Panchayat Cup football tournament, organised by Varca Sports Club, on Friday.

The match ended goalless in regulation time. Aliston Fernandes missed an open chance in the first half as his shot missed the target by a whisker. Crossing over, CAC tried to play an attacking game and made several moves, which were all in vain. In the tiebreaker, Wilred Leisure scored through Arnav Estebeiro, Mairon Fernandes, Aliston Fernandes and Nezly Hilario while CAC Sports & Social Club converted through Aaron Fernandes and Agnelo D'Souza. Alison Fernandes of Wilred Leisure was adjudged the Man of the match.

Fr Angel Ashram reach title clash
Fr Angel Ashram Verna proved better shooters in the tiebreaker as they beat Loyola 4-2 to enter the finals of the Sir Jawaharlal Da Costa Under-14 Inter-school Football Tournament organised by United Sports Club of Seraulim at The Base Goa, Seraulim.

During the regulation time the teams were level 1-1. Loyola scored through Mitson Barbosa and Fr Agnel Ashram equalised through Ismail Nayak just minutes before the final whistle. In the tiebreaker, Fr Agnel Ashram scored through Ismail Nayak, Snedon Vaz and Jaden Pinto. Loyola scored through Evan Ferrao while Reuben Barbosa's penalty was saved by Fr Agnel goalkeeper Rhyce Barreto. In the other match, Mount Mary's Chinchinim went down fighting to Perpetual Succour Navelim 2-0. Perpetual Succour scored through Mohammed Taufiq and Emanuel Gama.

In the girls' matches, Manovikas HS Margao scored a narrow 1-0 win over Vidya Vikas Margao. Valusha Gonsalves scored the winner. Fatima Convent Margao outplayed Perpetual Succor Navelim 5-2. Fatima scored through Dezma D'Costa (brace), Shalika Rodrigues (brace) and Joleen Fernandes. Perpetual Convent netted through Clea Colaco and Vania Godinho. The finals will be played on January 22 at 5 pm at The Base Goa in Seraulim.

Inter-Deanery youth football tourney on Jan 26
The Diocesan Youth Centre of the Archdiocese of Goa in association with John Paul II Foundation for Sports (Goa) will be organising its annual All Goa Inter Deanery Youth Football Tournament on January 26 at the Nagao Ground from 9 am onwards.

The Deanery teams will be participating in the tournament and it is also a selection tournament for the Goa Archdiocese team participating in the All India Agape Cup Football Tournament to be held in May in Odisha. All the teams participating in the final rounds of the tournament being held after a gap of two years due to the pandemic will give an opportunity to the best players to participate in the tournament.

GFA names team for beach soccer nationals
Goa Football Association has named 12 players and 2 officials for the Goa State team participating in Beach Soccer National Football Championship 2022-23 to be held at Surat, Gujarat from January 26 to February 1. Players: Pratik Kankonkar, Suresh Lamani, Shubham Dessai, Satish Kankonkar, Abel Gurjao, Kunal Kundaikar, Oliver D’Souza, Rohit Sunkerikar, Afton De Costa, Satish Naik, Latish Kunkalkar, Nehal Parab; Officials: Gavin Araujo (head coach), Antonio Prestly Pereira (assistant coach cum manager).

PANAJIA record 386 participants registered for the Gadre Gaspar Dias Open 2023 State Level Tennis Tournament to be played at Miramar from January 26, the organisers said.Out of the 386 players registered for the event, 199 have registered under the veterans category while 187 players will compete in the open category.
