Mitra Veterans Santa Cruz were crowned champions of 2nd Kala Mogi Veterans football tournament, organised by Betalbatim Kala Mogi after beating Orlim Veterans 9-8 via the tie-breaker in the finals, at Betalbatim panchayat ground, on Sunday.
In the 10th minute, Mitra Veterans got a free-kick which was taken by Avinash which directly landed in the Orlim net beating the goalkeeper. Orlim Robert fernandes unleashed a long range shot which hit the cross bar and went out of play before half time.
Changing over, Orlim Veterans change their plans and combination of Marcus, Robert and Pascoal tried to find the equaliser and they got in the 30th minute when Marcus' free-kick from outside the box was well connected by Pascoal whose header hit the side pole and went in the net.
In resultant tie-breaker, Mitra Veterans Santa Cruz were proved to be better shooters.
Rev Fr Canon Lucio Dias was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to winners and runners up in presence of Fr Adrian Furtado PP, Fr Dinesh Mendonca and other priests, sarpanch, Dy.sarpanch and other dignitaries.
