Vivaan Ballikar of Salcete taluka won the All Goa Rotary Open Rapid Chess Tournament 2022 organised by Rotary Club of Margao and Salcete Taluka Chess Association at Verna Panchayat Hall, Verna on Sunday.
It consisted of 8 rounds with a total prize money of Rs 20,000 and trophies. Vivaan bagged a cash prize of Rs 3500 and a trophy. He beat Aryan Shamrao Raikar in the last round and Sachin Gaude (1458) in the seventh round.
Earlier, in the 5th round Paarth Salvi (1375) of Bardez beat Top Seed Dmitry Bezstrakhov (1924) of Russia to throw the field wide open. Aryan Shamrao Raikar of Salcete Taluka with 7 points was the runner-up and won the second prize of Rs.2500 and a trophy. He beat Sairaj Vernekar in the 7th round. The third position went to Sairaj Dilip Vernekar also of Salcete Taluka.
Totally 161 players participated in the tournament, out of which 59 were rated players with 2 players from Russia and 1 from Ukraine also participating. The other standings are: 4th prize - Paarth Salvi of Bardez, 5th prize - Dmitry Bezstrakhov, 6th - Anish Naik, Ponda, 7th - Sachin Gaude, Ponda, 8th Ridikesh Vernekar, Salcete, 9th - Shubh Borkar, 10th - Diya Sawal, Salcete - 11th Kanishk Sawant, Bicholim, 12th - Atharv Katkar, Salcete, 13th - Sanjay Thorat, Mormugao, 14th - Tanad Anil Bandodkar, Salcete, 15th - Sathvik Kerkar, Ponda.
