Sources revealed that Prabhu met representatives from ASSOCHAM (The Associated Chambers of Commerce of India), GCCI (Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry), GMOEA (Goa Mineral Ore Exporters Association), cashews exporters and marine exporters to find ways to remove bottlenecks from exports.
Manguirush Pai Raikar, national MSME Board member, said, "The idea behind Prabhu's meetings with trade associations was to find ways to grow exports so that our country's balance of payments situation improves. A number of products, which we import, can be manufactured in India under ‘Make-in-India' initiative, which will also result in more employment."
Balance of payments means difference between exports and imports. If India's exports are more than imports, then foreign exchange can be saved, self- reliance will improve and even employment can be generated.
Raikar added, "Prabhu has also proposed that Goa government could think of having a coastal export promotion zone. "
The central government is promoting the concept of such zones across Gujarat to Kerala.
It is in this context that Prabhu suggested that the state government can think of having a coastal export promotion zone.
