The PM Shri Government High School at Keri, Sattari, has implemented a kitchen gardening project under its Green Warriors Eco Club as part of the Central government’s Lifestyle for Environment (LiFE) initiative.

The project was carried out on a 100 square metre plot within the school premises. Students cultivated five varieties of vegetables, including red spinach, radish, coriander and turmeric. They actively took part in all stages of the activity, from soil preparation and sowing to watering and harvesting.

Through the hands-on exercise, students learned about environment-friendly farming practices and the importance of sustainable living. The initiative also helped in developing a sense of responsibility, teamwork and basic entrepreneurial skills among the students.

The vegetables harvested from the garden were sold to teachers and local residents, generating an income of around Rs 2,000. The amount was used to motivate students and support further eco-friendly activities.

The project was implemented under the guidance of school principal Azra Ansari, with the support of teachers Angarika Sawant, Sumedha Gawas, Jagriti Sawant, Vidya Desai, Ankita Mainkar and Sunil Gawas.

The school said the initiative has increased environmental awareness among students and plans are in place to continue and expand the project to promote sustainable practices.
