The company also informed that it is the first pharmaceutical unit in Zambia to apply for World Health Organisation (WHO) certification.
NRB Group belongs to noted industrialist Narayan Bandekar, who is also the chairman of Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI). It is also reported that President of Republic of Zambia, Changwa Lungu, commissioned NRB Group’s pharma plant at Lusaka.
The plant is located at Lusaka Multi Facility Economic Zone.
NRB Group further informed that its pharmaceutical plant in Zambia has an installed capacity to manufacture 375 million tablets, while it even has plans to start manufacturing capsules at a later date. The company has invested 12 million US dollars in the plant.
Meanwhile, the plant has already started manufacturing anti-malaria, antibiotics and anti TB tablets.
It also has plans to make anti-retroviral drugs, which are used for treatment of HIV/AIDS, after getting WHO certification.
NRB Group also informed that the plant is slated to expand its manufacturing base to cater to huge demand in the sub-Saharan Africa.
Bandekar further said that NRB Group would assess more opportunities to invest in Zambia and partner with Zambian government in its efforts to bring development to its people.
This is the first time that NRB Group has made an overseas foray. Although, the group’s flagship business is iron ore mining,
but it has also diversified into hospitality, engineering, fitness, entertainment and retail sectors.
