BELAGAVI
While onion prices remained stable due to arrival of stocks from the onion growing belts of Nasik, Pune and Nagar districts in Maharashtra, prices of potato and other vegetables have been soaring due to shortage of supplies following a drought-like situation in the region.
Belagavi has separate wholesale markets for vegetables. The wholesale market for vegetables is located next to the Belagavi Fort on the Old Dharwad Road, while the onion and potato market is located at the Agriculture Produce Market Committee (APMC) off Bauxite Road near BK Kangrali village.
Onion arrives in Belagavi market every Wednesday and Saturday while fresh vegetables start arriving everyday from the hinterland 2 to 3 pm onwards.
It is observed that many Goans visiting Belagavi during weekends and other days prefer to visit in groups and purchase vegetables from the Belagavi wholesale vegetable market.
