What govt plans to sell as State tourism’s latest offering

In a bid to promote spiritual and wellness tourism, Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte has said that Goa must not only be viewed as a ‘sun, sea and sand’ destination. He has called for a change in the way the State is projected and perceived.

The minister also spoke of promoting temples and traditional festivals like Chikhal Kalo and Sao Joao whilst also adding that the government is looking to promote sustainable and responsible tourism.

Although the government has launched a great initiative and is promoting the local and historical aspects of the State, the sad truth however is that it hasn’t managed to bring about a ‘clean’ perception of Goa’s USP.

The government has kept talking about sustainable tourism for years, but has miserably failed in curbing crime, drugs and pollution which it often pledges to do.

Expect the same now, in the hinterland as more religiously sensitive festivals and locations which matter to Goa are exploited to promote tourism.
