The ‘Shiv Premis’ as they style themselves came charging, howling and even swearing at Calangute Sarpanch Joseph Sequeira the other day. They also pelted stones at the panchayat office and at the vehicles parked within the compound.
Yet Goa Police have failed to register a complaint against anyone more than 48 hours after the episode, inspite of a written complaint from the sarpanch.
Also, there’s footage captured by the CCTV cameras installed at the Calangute panchayat besides scores of videos capturing the hooliganism by the raging mob on that day.
So what is it that’s tying the cop’s hands in penning the FIR? A ‘shiv premi’ perched at Altinho?
Conversely, a comment by the young Vasco lad sufficed the police in the port town to detain him purportedly for “hurting religious sentiments.”
Twist in the tale? Amid all the controversy of the country’s right-wing ecosystem attempting to re-write history, here the Vasco cops seem to be taking the cake: Taking the great warrior king Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, for a symbol of religion!
