Camera to the rescue

The tiatrist entertain the masses with new ideas and compete with each other on stage and keep the show going on. There are times, when the artistes themselves come face to face with real life situations and they have to face them boldly. Daniel F de Souza documents such exclusive episodes never heard before in his Konkani book 'Oxem Ghoddlem’. The Goan will be intermittently featuring such interesting incidents faced by the Konkani stage artistes on stage as well as in their real life. In this first episode of 'Real Life Drama' comedian Ben Evangelisto narrates his real life situation

Camera to the rescue

This incident took place in the year August2004 when I was in Canada for performing in a musical show. One of my cousinstook me out to visit a friend. We had to drive from home for about an hour anda half to reach our destination. Hardly had I reached the friend’s place, Ifelt the need and urge to answer nature’s call. However, being a stranger Ifelt shy and decided to control and hold back my urge. I continued in the samemanner till we had done with our visit.

On our way driving back home, I explained my predicament to my cousin and Iasked him to stop the car somewhere on the highway so that I can answer thenature’s call and fulfil my need.

After a while my cousin stopped the car on the highway and I went over to theside and began doing the needful. The moment the other motorists passing on thehighway noticed what I was doing, they began to acknowledge my presence byhonking out loud. Because, seeing something like this happening in theircountry was rather strange and unheard of.

Seeing every other car blowing theirhorn on seeing me, I thought of an idea. I had a camera in my pocket, I broughtit out and holding it prominently in one hand I began to pretend as though Iwas actually clicking pictures of the surrounding and at the same time finishedwith my need. It was only then that the cars speeding by stopped honking and Icould relieve myself in peace. Oh what a relief it was!
